Discover Kombi Cafe & Smoothie Bar

Walking into Kombi Cafe & Smoothie Bar feels like stepping into a relaxed coastal hangout where time slows down just enough for you to enjoy what’s in front of you. Tucked away at 20 Francis St, Battery Point TAS 7004, Australia, this spot has quietly built a reputation among locals for fresh food, colorful smoothies, and a vibe that matches the laid-back charm of Battery Point. I first stopped in after a long walk along the waterfront, and it quickly became one of those places you remember, then return to without thinking twice.

The menu leans heavily toward fresh, wholesome options, but it doesn’t feel preachy or restrictive. Think real ingredients, balanced flavors, and generous portions. Their smoothie range is the obvious crowd-pleaser, blending fresh fruit, plant-based milks, protein boosts, and greens in combinations that actually taste good. One of the staff mentioned they prep fruit daily and avoid pre-made mixes, which lines up with what you taste in the glass. Research from organizations like the Australian Dietary Guidelines consistently highlights the benefits of whole fruits and vegetables, and these smoothies feel like a practical, enjoyable way to get there without overthinking it.

Food-wise, the cafe keeps things simple but thoughtful. Toasties, wraps, and light breakfast plates dominate the menu, making it ideal for brunch or a casual lunch. On my last visit, the avocado toast came out perfectly balanced, creamy avocado, well-seasoned, with quality sourdough that didn’t overpower the toppings. A nearby table ordered a smoothie bowl piled high with granola and fresh berries, and judging by the reactions, it was a hit. It’s the kind of menu that works whether you’re gluten-free, dairy-free, or just hungry and undecided.

What really sets the place apart is consistency, something that often shows up in reviews from regulars. Across multiple visits, the smoothies tasted the same, the coffee was reliably smooth, and the service stayed friendly without being overbearing. That kind of consistency is something hospitality experts often point to as a key driver of customer trust. Studies in customer experience, including work referenced by the Australian Restaurant & Café Association, show that repeat business is closely tied to predictable quality and welcoming service, both of which seem baked into how this cafe operates.

The space itself adds to the appeal. Seating spills into the street, making it perfect for people-watching, while inside feels casual and unpretentious. You’ll see solo diners with laptops, couples lingering over smoothies, and locals grabbing takeaway on their way through Battery Point. The location works in its favor too, close enough to central Hobart attractions but far enough away to avoid the tourist rush.

There are limitations worth noting. The menu isn’t huge, so if you’re craving a full sit-down dinner, this isn’t the place. Peak hours can also mean a short wait, especially on weekends. Still, the staff handle busy periods smoothly, and orders move faster than you’d expect for a place focused on fresh preparation.

Overall, the experience feels genuine. From the way ingredients are handled to how the team interacts with customers, everything points to a cafe that knows what it does well and sticks to it. Reviews often mention the friendly atmosphere, fresh smoothies, and relaxed setting, and those impressions hold up in real life. For anyone exploring Battery Point or looking for a dependable local cafe with personality, this spot fits naturally into the neighborhood rhythm.

  • Great little spot for breakfast and coffee. Service was amazing and food came out quick. The breakfast bowls are super-filling, coffee was spot on and great options for people who are gluten free etc. would definitely come back here again when in Hobart next time.

  • It was fantastic to find such a great gluten free cafe! We visited four times as the atmosphere and coffee are great and my gluten eating friends were very impressed by the toasties. I had a nourish bowl, toastie, fresh muffin and apple and cinnamon scroll on different days and would recommend all the food.

  • A hidden gem in Battery Point. Can’t recommend this cafe enough. Their service was excellent, the food was all 10/10. Everything was very reasonably priced too. The music and atmosphere was lovely.

  • Cute little cafe. Love their concept of using only real ingredients!! (That’s why there won’t be oat milk) Highly recommend if anyone is stopping by battery point.

  • Beautiful staff assisted me with my order and then didn't take the opportunity to make fun of me when I asked if any sweet treats were gluten free (EVERYTHING IS GLUTEN FREE ) had the power bowl, changed my life. I'm going to be dreaming of it for a long time. Also got a hilariously named smoothie fungus brothers or something, some pun named drink and that was delicious too! About to tuck into the aforementioned sweet treats with much enthusiasm because of course it's going to be delicious HIGHLY RECOMMEND

  • Kombi in Battery Point is always a must-do for me. I used to live in Hobart, and now every time I visit it’s one of the first places I go back to. We had the You’re Berry Awesome bowl with added peanut butter. It was so fresh, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. And the coffee? Honestly one of the best I’ve had in a long time: smooth, flavourful, and never bitter. Such a cosy little spot with great vibes. Can’t wait for my next visit!
